I’ve only spent one evening in my entire life at a camera club meeting. I never found the desire or need to be part of one. The closest I have got to this sort of community has been with the Focus Flickr group. They are a great bunch of guys, and with almost 500 members there is always a shoot going on somewhere on the Northern Beaches or in the Sydney area. For the last several months I have been running a number of Photoshop courses for the Focus group to great reception. It’s always a bit scary as a photographer seeing the results the students are getting, the level of work in the group amazes me. Anyway they had an awards evening over the weekend and I was asked to do a presentation about my courses and Photoshop.
What better way to demonstrate the power of post processing than with a time lapse video of me at work. The first image is pretty straight forward and shows how I pull the most dynamic range from an image giving it beautiful rich colours an contrast. The second is a more extreme example where an entire section of the image is removed and lots of manipulation is done. This level of post processing is not something I do very often (only this image comes to mind) however it shows you what is possible.
The main focus of the evening was of course about awards, I was lucky enough to win 1st place in the After Dark category for my image of Weeping Rock.
This video inspires me to spend more time with PS 🙂
